Are crimanal records really an issue? How many western English teachers have committed crimes in the past?

Unfortunately, more than you think, but for Happy Schools that isn't the point. We're not trying to punish teachers for past crimes; we're trying to protect students from future ones. The most effective way to do this is to screen teachers for past offenses.

Happy Schools believes the vast majority of teachers are good-natured and have no intention of exploiting the opportunity to teach in your country. Most teachers don't have criminal records and Happy Schools will confirm this for you. The point of the program is to protect schools and their students from the few teachers who mean to do harm. It only takes one to ruin a child's life and a school's reputation.

Why Happy Schools? Can't I just request criminal records checks directly from my teachers?

Criminal records documentation can be difficult to interpret and, in some cases, easily forged or altered. Happy Schools gives you the strength of a full-fledged program that works closely with law enforcement agencies to ensure registered teachers are duly processed and approved for registration.

Teacher recruitment is already tough. Won't participating in Happy Schools make it even more difficult?

It shouldn't. Schools aren't the only ones interested in safer classrooms and sincere teachers. When a teacher commits a crimes abroad, it reflects badly on all teachers. The only teachers who will be resistant to your participation in the Happy Schools program are teachers you most likely don't want on your staff anyway. The Happy Schools program is about brinGing good teachers together with good schools.

Does Happy Schools guarantee registered teachers will be safe, effective teachers?

No. Happy Schools cannot guarantee the behaviour of any registered teacher. Do not take anything for granted when it comes to teacher behaviour, particularly those who teach children. Happy Schools registration is not a seal of approval that relieves schools from their obligation to monitor their teachers and protect their students.
