DegreeCheck is a supplementary service provided to Happy Schools registered teachers and schools. DegreeCheck was established to enhance Happy Schools' teacher registration process by providing schools with an avenue to confirm credentials and teachers with the peace of mind that their hard-earned degree was worth the time and effort

Background

Degree fraud takes two main forms: 1) fake degrees; 2) unaccredited degrees. The ESL industry is particularly susceptible to the use of both for a number of reasons:

• the attractiveness of teaching and travelling
• the difficulties overseas employers face confirming credentials
• the ease with which fake credentials can be purchased abroad
• the lack of regulation in the ESL industry as a whole

With a growing number of countries requesting degrees as a condition of visa processing for English teachers, the problem of degree fraud is likely to grow. Happy Schools is pleased to work with registered teachers and schools in an effort to curb this trend. True to our mission, Degree Check empowers Happy Schools to promote and provide ESL learning situations for children that are safe and effective.

Processing

Happy Schools' DegreeCheck service involves the processing of three documents from the applicant's registration package:

• copy of degree
• university transcripts
• release form

Applicants submitting fraudulent documents will be reported to the relevant authorities.
